Determined Employee: Togar’s Story

GoodVision not only provides free eye tests and affordable glasses but also provides sustainable job opportunities to young people in developing countries. We would like to share the story of Togar, one of the many lives which have been changed through GoodVision’s work.

To find those in need of glasses, GoodVision’s team of Good Vision Technicians (GVTs) lead outreach programs where they visit schools, religious institutions, and community centers to provide screenings and distribute affordable glasses to those who need them. Togar G. Tarr, 28, has been working as a GVT with GoodVision in Liberia for almost 2 years. Prior to becoming a GVT, Togar worked as a nurse aide at Refuge Place International, GoodVision’s partner organization in Liberia. Togar has led dozens of does GoodVision outreach events in his time as a GVT. Along with a team of other GVTs, he organizes outreach events across Liberia, sometimes traveling to destinations on foot or by motorbike when roads are not passable with a car. From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Togar and the other GVTs have continued to provide vision care while ensuring patient safety. When outreach visits were paused due to government-mandated travel restrictions and school closures, Togar gave vision screenings to patients at the Refuge clinic instead. Togar enjoys his role as a GVT because he can make an impact in the lives of schoolchildren and others in need of glasses in Liberia. He has seen how the GVT outreach teams are welcomed with open arms in the communities where they work. Togar is excited to continue working with GoodVision to provide glasses to all who need them.

Working with RPI has been my dream because of where I come from, and giving back to the same community is the greatest honor for me and to continue to become a full technician under GoodVision. People within my community called me born to suffer child, but today I am grateful for the level where God has placed me and also grateful to RPI for everything and the GoodVision team for thinking about helping Liberians.” – Togar Tarr
