GoodVision Burkina Faso’s new Nurse Training Project is already making waves. In just two months, 50 nurses across the Center Region have been trained in basic eye care — and 304 patients have already been screened as a result.

The project trains frontline health workers to conduct vision screenings, manage common eye conditions, and refer complex cases to specialists, bringing essential eye care into communities that previously had little to no access. Next up: regular glasses distribution at health centers and joint eye camps to reach even more patients.

“I believe it will have a positive long-term impact not only on the population but also on the healthcare system.” — Kadidia Diarra, Ophthalmologist, National Center for the Fight Against Blindness

What makes this model so powerful is its ripple effect. Each trained nurse goes back to their health center and trains their colleagues — meaning the impact multiplies far beyond the classroom. It’s a blueprint for sustainable, community-rooted eye care that GoodVision hopes to expand nationwide.
