OUR WORK IN LIBERIA

WHY LIBERIA?

GoodVision USA’s first project is in Liberia, the fourth poorest country in the world. Only 10% of the population has access to medical facilities and even less to eye care services.  Glasses at optical shops in Liberia cost similar to what they do in the US, however, the vast majority of the Liberian population earns only about $1.25 a day. GoodVision is aiming to make affordable glasses within the reach of all Liberians. All the time.

OUR PARTNERSHIP

In 2018, Dr. Fallah reached out to GoodVision with hopes to bring our glasses to his community in Liberia. The project was launched in 2019. To date,  RPI has conducted over 7,000 visual screenings and dispensed hundreds of pairs of glasses throughout Liberia. Covid-19 put a hold on our activities for several months but the project is ramping up to expand in 2021 thanks to the generous support of L’Occitane Foundation. 

REFUGE PLACE INTERNATIONAL

Our on-the-ground partner is the charity, Refuge Place International (RPI), founded by Dr. Mosoka Fallah.  Dr. Fallah is an epidemiologist who returned to his native Liberia from studies in the US to establish RPI, a medical clinic in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Liberia where he had grown up.  Dr. Fallah continues to work tirelessly for causes he believes in, including providing access to clear vision for his fellow Liberians. 

GoodVision SUPPORT

GoodVision USA has supported this project with technical and financial assistance, materials, and training assistance. We made our first grant to RPI for the purchase of an SUV to reach rural villages. Additionally, we are very pleased to have received a generous grant from L’Occitane Foundation and L’Occitane North America, which will help fund the expansion of this project in 2021.
